The boxes are out!
They are standing in Södra Hamn in Luleå until June 6th. Go visit them!
Our Concept
Lávvu – Sámi name for a temporary shelter made to set up and take down without a trace

The Team
We are 9 driven team members studying Architectural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology
“The whole team is full of dedicated and driven students who are determined to win! Designing and constructing something like this is new for all of us, but we’re up for the challenge. It is we students who will produce the blueprints for the houses as well as build the boxes ourselves.”

The Challenge
A global initiative now arranged in Sweden by IG Passivhus Sweden as a competition between universities
For the first time, students from five Swedish universities will participate in the international ICE BOX Challenge! In this competition, they will design and build the most sustainable and energy-efficient mini-houses.
IG Passivhus Sweden
The concept is simple yet effective: two boxes per team, each the size of a playhouse, will be filled with one metric ton of ice and placed outdoors for a month. One box is constructed according to conventional Swedish building standards, while the other is built as a passive house with an energy-efficient design.
In May, the boxes will be exhibited on Storgatan outside Vetenskapens Hus in Luleå and remain there until the National Day on June 6, when the boxes will be opened up to compare the amount of ice left.
The project will be judged based on a list of criteria, including innovation, reuse, choice of materials, design, presentation and the amount of ice left in the box after the set time.
